Graduate Gemologist

Charlotte, NC

Our client has a long history in the diamond industry. They started in the mines of British Guiana in the 1950’s and their legacy of high-quality diamonds and gems continues in Charlotte, NC. They are seeking an experienced Graduate Gemologist who will be responsible for providing superior customer service, completing appraisals, overseeing quality control of diamonds and gemstones, and assisting the sales staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and conduct quality control to ensure incoming inventory meets our strict, exacting standards.
  • Examine diamond and colored gemstone jewelry items and complete comprehensive jewelry appraisals
  • Evaluate and document clarity and color characteristics within the standard GIA grading system to determine grade and value.
  • Track all repairs, special orders, appraisals, inventory, and memo/consignment goods
  • Maintain diamond inventory levels, source diamonds, and coordinate orders across different suppliers
  • Properly enter data into inventory
  • Work closely with the sales team and production team to ensure best client experience
  • Ability to work on the sales floor and interact with high-end clientele
Qualifications:
  • GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma required
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience appraising modern and Estate/Period jewelry and accurately grading loose diamonds according to GIA standards
  • Prior sales experience is helpful
  • Excellent communication skills; must be able to communicate and interact with high-end clientele
  • Excellent organization skills
